NEW DELHI (India): A group of experts have asserted that the government must shift from a scheme-based model to a rights-based model to ensure inclusive development of the tribal communities in India
In an article on “Down To Earth” recently, these experts said that for this, the Gram Sabhas must be strengthened, local livelihoods must be supported, and tribal communities must be recognized as stake-holders in India’s sustainable development. To achieve this, the problems in the implementation of the Forests Rights Act and PESA must be resolved. The government must allocate a separate budget for implementing the Forest Rights Act, they assert.
