Wins double gold in hockey, 4 gold in athletics

RAIPUR (Chhattisgarh, India): Odisha had a golden day at the Khelo India Tribal Games (KITG) 2026 as it clinched 6 gold medals in all on Wednesday, the eighth day of the games. Odisha won the gold in the men’s and women’s hockey, even as they won eight medals, including 4 gold medals, in athletics.

The Odisha men beat Jharkhand 4-1 while the women beat Mizoram 1-0 in the hockey finals. In men’s football, West Bengal and hosts Chhattisgarh won their semi-finals to set up a title clash.

Karnataka remained at the top of the table as it increased its tally to 36, which includes 21 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze, followed by Odisha with 45 medals – 19 gold, 10 silver and 16 bronze. Jharkhand is at third place with 9 gold, 3 silver and 7 bronze for a tally of 19. Hosts Chhattisgarh are at tenth place with 2 gold, 8 silver and 4 bronze, totaling 14 medals.

Athletics

In athletics, Odisha won 8 medals in the day’s events, which included 4 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze.

Odisha won the gold in the men’s 400 meters and 800 meters, the gold in the women’s javelin throw, the gold and bronze in the women’s high jump, the silver in the women’s 800 meters and 10 kilometer walk, and the bronze in the women’s 400 meters hurdles. Karnataka finished 1-2 in the 10 kilometer walk.

In the men’s 400 meters hurdles, Roshan Khadia (Odisha) won the gold with a timing of 53.41, while Dnyaneshwar Vali (Maharashtra) won the silver at 54.02. Manish Bedia (Jharkhand) clinched the bronze with 54.62. In the men’s 10 kilometer walk, Dashrath Talawar (Karnataka) won the gold clocking 45:13.85, while his team-mate Darshan Bagadi won the silver with 46:25.90. Sagar Katara (Gujarat) got the bronze with 48:16.09. In the men’s 800 meters, Dayanidhi Munda (Odisha) clinched the gold with a timing of 1:53.33, while Gajendra Thakur (Chhattisgarh) was close behind at 1:53.82 for the silver. Rahul Oraon (Jharkhand) clocked 1:54.32 for the silver.

In the women’s 400 meters hurdles, Shivani Kumari (Jharkhand) clinched the gold with 1:02.06, Adithya KM (Kerala) the silver with 1:04.60, and Basanti Majhi (Odisha) the bronze with 1:05.89.

In women’s high jump, Dipa Kisan (Odisha) won the gold with a jump of 1.45, Kahima Basumatary (Assam) the silver with 1.45, and Kabita Tadingi (Odisha) with 1.43.

In women’s javelin throw, Dhanmati Xess (Odisha) won the gold with a throw of 44.79, Sabita Murmu (Jharkhand) the silver with 43.12, and Apiksha Gamit (Gujarat) with 41.77.

In women’s 800 meters, Nagini (Karnataka) clocked 2:13.80 for the gold, Purnima Sandil (Odisha) 2:15.88 for the silver, and Shanti Bai (Madhya Pradesh) 2:19.11 for the bronze. In the women’s 10 kilometer walk, Neha Xalxo (Jharkhand) clocked 1:04:2.46 for the gold, Alish Ekka (Odisha) 1:04:59.12 for the silver, Bethlyne Grace Makri (Meghalaya) 1:05:18.62 for the bronze.

Football

In men’s football, West Bengal beat Goa and Chhattisgarh beat Arunachal Pradesh to enter the finals.

In the first semi-final, West Bengal got the better of Goa 5-2. Bijay Murmu (42), Chaku Mandi (90), Dilip Oraon (36), Rahul Murmu (45) and Sourav Sabbar (27) found the net for West Bengal. Goa managed to find the net only twice through Charles Miranda (84) and Prathamesh Gaonkar (90).

In the other semi-final, Chhattisgarh beat Arunachal Pradesh 3-2. Chhattisgarh dominated the game for the major part as Akhilesh Kumar Uike scored a brace (34, 66) and was supported by Manoj Kumar Lekam (75). For Arunachal Pradesh, a brace by Rahul Goju Singpho (81, 86) in the late minutes went in vain.

There were no matches in women’s football on Wednesday.

Hockey

Odisha took home both the gold medals on offer in hockey when their men and women won their final outings.

In the men’s final, Odisha beat Jharkhand 4-1 to win the gold, while Jharkhand won the silver. Odisha scored through Satish Munda (60), Abhisek Lakra (20), Akash Sorong (37) and Amit Kumar Toppo (21). Jaymasih Tuti (15) was the lone scorer for Jharkhand.

Hosts Chhattisgarh clinched the bronze when they beat Madhya Pradesh 14-6 thanks to hat-tricks by Sandeep Kumar Thakur (5, 10, 52) and Robit Ekka (13, 19, 38), who were supported by Sumit Minj (27, 49), Vishal Kispotta (11, 26), Avinash Ekka (47, 54), sVivek Beck (58) and Avinash Toppo (51). For Madhya Pradesh, Mayank Karma (12, 13), Shaun Glen Gladwin (55, 58), Falesh Karve (48) and Shwetank James (60) sounded the board.

In the women’s final, Odisha beat Mizoram 1-0 to clinch the gold. The only goal of the game came from Ajmina Kujur (39). Mizoram clinched the silver.

Jharkhand clinched the bronze when they beat Madhya Pradesh 4-0, thanks to two goals each by Selestina Horo (40, 45) and Switi Dungdung (33, 48).
