DANTEWADA (Chhattisgarh, India): In a meaningful grassroots initiative designed to nurture children from tribal communities, National Mineral Development Corporation Limited (NMDC) has launched a series of summer camps across 17 villages in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh.
The camps, which began on May 20 and will continue up to June 15, will bring learning, creativity and joy to tribal children during the summer vacations. The initiative aims to engage 1,700 youngsters in experiential learning activities while promoting creativity, sports, teamwork and personal development.
The children spend three to four hours engaged in reading, craftwork and music workshops, followed by games of frisbee, kabaddi and kho-kho. They also get healthy refreshments.

The camps are being held in partnership with WOSCA, an organization working in the field of education and community development.
Activities have commenced in most villages, and mobilization efforts are being carried out to increase participation, according to an official press release. At present, the daily attendance at the camps ranges from 30 to 40 children in each village.
Through this program, NMDC, a public sector undertaking, aims to invest in the aspirations and potential of children at the grassroots level. The initiative forms part of the company’s broader village development efforts and focuses on nurturing social, creative and leadership skills among children from underserved communities. The summer camps have received a positive response from children, parents and local stakeholders. NMDC has asked families and community members to actively participate in the initiative and help make the summer camps a meaningful learning experience for children in Dantewada.
