HYDERABAD (Telangana, India): The second edition of the biennial World Applied Anthropology Congress will be held in Hyderabad in March 2026.

The event is being hosted by the Anthropological Association for Humankind (AAfH) from March 27 to 29, 2026. The theme for the Congress is “Interwoven Worlds: Anthropology Engaging with Global and Local Challenges of Climate Change and Migration.” The event, to be held at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) located in Patancheru, Hyderabad, will bring together researchers, practitioners and policymakers to examine the social impacts of climate change and migration. The theme reflects growing concern over environmental stress, population displacement and inequality across regions. The event aims to strengthen the role of applied anthropology in shaping policy and practice by connecting academic research with real-world problems. The program will include keynote addresses, panel discussions, workshops and poster sessions focused on climate adaptation, mobility, livelihoods and community resilience. The last date for submission of abstracts is 31st January 2026.

The sub-themes and tracks for the Congress include “Integrating indigenous knowledge, gender and justice in climate change,” “Indigenous ecological knowledge and climate adaptation,” “Mainstream indigenous and local knowledge systems,” “Indigenous strategies of climate resilience” and “Youth and indigenous leadership forums”. A digital archive of the event will be created, which will include indigenous testimonies.

The World Applied Anthropology Congress was launched in 2023 as a platform for applied anthropologists to share evidence-based solutions to global challenges. Since its inception, the forum has sought to expand participation from the Global South and encourage collaboration between scholars, development institutions and local communities.
