RAIPUR (Chhattisgarh, India): Karnataka leads the medals tally with 8 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medals at the end of Day 2 of the inaugural Khelo India Tribal Games (KITG) 2026 here on Thursday.
A major part of Karnataka’s haul came from swimming, an event in which the state registered massive success.
Odisha holds second place with 5 gold medals, 1 silver and 8 bronze. Assam is placed third with 2 gold and 3 silver. Hosts Chhattisgarh are placed sixth with 2 silver and 1 bronze.
Dhoneesh N of Karnataka and Anjali Munda of Odisha clinched the first two gold medals of the inaugural KITG.
Dhoneesh became the first male athlete to clinch a gold medal at KITG when he won the men’s 200 meters freestyle swimming on Day 1 of the games.
Anjali Munda of Odisha became the first woman athlete to win a gold medal at KITG. She clinched 1 gold on Day 1 in the women’s 200 meters freestyle swimming, increasing her tally by 2 more gold medals on Day 2. On the second day, she bagged the gold medal in the women’s 200 meters individual medley and 100 meters backstroke, and then helped her team to the top spot in the 4 x 100 meters relay.
In weightlifting, Monhika Sonowal of (Assam) won women’s 48 kg gold with a total lift of 132 kg, while Isak Malsawmtlunanga (Mizoram) clinched the men’s 60 kg gold with 235 kg. Jhilli Dalabehera (Odisha) secured a gold medal in the women’s 53 kg on bodyweight advantage after a tie.
In football, Chhattisgarh held West Bengal to a 1-1 draw, while Arunachal Pradesh beat Goa 2-0. Madhya Pradesh beat Tamil Nadu 3-1, while Lakshadweep lost to Mizoram 0-2.
