ROURKELA (Odisha, India): The Indian government and the state governments are actively working various schemes for tribal welfare since the country’s development is possible only through the progress of every section of society, the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, said here on Wednesday.

She was speaking at a public function after inaugurating several landmark projects in the city, including a tribal museum and the Nirmal Munda Pravesh Path, according to an official press release. The government’s schemes were accelerating the development in tribal-dominated districts like Sundargarh, while prioritizing the economic uplift of tribal communities, Murmu said.

The President said that Sundargarh had a different kind of charm because of its natural beauty, folk culture and heritage. The allure of its dense forests, mountains, waterfalls and rivers was boundless, she said, adding that the art and culture of Sundargarh had further enriched the cultural abundance of Odisha. She emphasized that Sundargarh was also the land of brave individuals and sports enthusiasts.

Advising people to participate actively in the development of the country, Murmu said everyone must lend a helping hand to others even as they themselves moved up in life. “Every individual must become a good human being first and also strive to uplift those who have been left behind,” she said.

Rourkela had played a pioneering role in promoting Odisha’s art, literature, culture, tribal traditions and sports, she added.

The Tribal Museum is a state-of-the-art facility that showcases the rich heritage, traditions, and artifacts of local tribal communities such as Munda, Khadia, Oram and Bhuian. The Nirmal Munda Parivesh Path is a significant landmark and entrance gate named in honor of tribal leader and freedom fighter Nirmal Munda.
